Biography:
Luke Skywalker, portrayed by Mark Hamill, first appeared in the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. In Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Episode 8), he is a disillusioned and reclusive Jedi Master living in self-imposed exile on the island of Ahch-To.
Haunted by his past failures, specifically his perceived role in the fall of his nephew Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) to the dark side, Luke has severed himself from the Force and abandoned the ways of the Jedi. He initially refuses to train Rey, who seeks him out to help the Resistance.
Ultimately, he confronts Kylo Ren telepathically from Ahch-To, buying the Resistance time to escape the First Order's assault on Crait. This immense Force projection drains his life force, leading to his peaceful death as he becomes one with the Force, a final act of redemption and hope for the galaxy.
